Wrestlemania is on this weekend, the WWE’s biggest event of the year. The biggest match of the year is undoubtedly Roman Reigns (c) vs Cody Rhodes. Since returning a year ago, all eyes have been on Cody finally doing what his father couldn’t, and holding the big belt in the company. It’s been a hell of a ride getting here, including losing out on 6 months due to an injury. An injury he famously wrestled an amazing match through, I might add.
The Bloodline has their backs to the wall, and Cody’s win seems all but guaranteed.
But what if he fails?
Yes. I can happen.
WWE has hit us with some major swerves like this in the past, and I have every reason in the world to believe they’ll do it again. I have no doubts that Cody will hold that title. Hell, I have no doubt it will be here in 2023. But what if it isn’t now?
We lost a lot of time with Cody when he went out for surgery. Who knows what storylines they had cooked up that they were forced to scrap in that time period. I have no doubts that putting the title on him was always the plan, and they’ve more than made up for his absence in how they’ve carried us here. But what if they swerve us and Cody takes the fall? What if they really want to do some more building and do a rematch at SummerSlam?
Everything is on the table.
Don’t get me wrong, I still think Cody walks away as champion, making his daddy proud beyond the grave. But I can’t help thinking, what if?
