This Little Candy Can Help Bust Anxiety

For those that don’t know, I suffer from Generalized Anxiety Disorder, an affliction that impacts thousands of Americans. In my time having it, I’ve come across a few methods to help me keep it under control. So if you suffer from anxiety issues, whether they’re seasonal or permanent, Here’s a little trick I’ve picked up recently.

Warheads

Yes, those SUPER sour/hot candies many of us had run-ins with as kids.
It’s something I heard about recently, and figured I’d try for myself, and I’m glad that I did. Anything that can help ward off an incoming anxiety attack is something I’m all for.

Step 1 was the more difficult part. Finding the damn things.
Unfortunately, they’re not something you find as frequently in stores as they once were. Also, the supply shortages from the pandemic seem to have made them a little more difficult to find. But they are around. Always check your candy aisle at your local grocery store. If all else fails, there’s always Amazon. Here’s a link.

The idea of how they work is simple. It’s a grounding technique. The extreme sour that hits your face provides a rather effective human version of hitting ctrl/alt/delete on your brain.
And you know what? It actually works. I’ve used it a few times to handle some small bouts with anxiety, and it worked like a charm. I wouldn’t call it a substitute for medication and proper care, but it’s proven itself effective in a bind. And hell, it’s not the worst thing in the world to have some candy around once in a while.

Obviously, no single thing tackles anxiety on it’s own. But it’s always good to have a bag of tricks up your sleeve at all times. This is one effective and delicious trick, I might add.

Side note – It doesn’t seem to matter if they are sour or hot. They both induce a reaction that aids in grounding your senses. So pick whichever you prefer.
I happen to be more of a sour kinda guy when it comes to candy. But if you like it hot, do you, boo.
