Cheer up!

At some point this year, I think all of us have had some sort of breakdown.

It doesn’t have to be a complete meltdown with tears and shouting and a despondent gaze into the soul-sucking darkness of 2020.

It could just be a momentary lapse of good judgement. Maybe you cursed someone out when they didn’t do anything wrong. Maybe you threw something against the wall in a bout of frustration.

Whatever it was, I’m sure you had at least one moment during this effed-up year where you lost it.

According to a new survey, 70% of us have tried to do something positive every day to try & stay sane. Just something small. And our favorites are:

  1. Watching a favorite movie. Almost half of us have done it to give ourselves a boost. (GUILTY!!!! I’ve been rewatching a lot of movies with multiple sequels, too)
  2. Snacking. (GUILTY again…they talk about the Covid-15, I think I’ve gained the Covid-30)
  3. Going for a walk. (Definitely had more time to take the dogs around the block this year!)
  4. Calling a friend. (This has been a really nice byproduct of the pandemic. Zoom dates with friends on Friday nights!)
  5. Cuddling with a pet.
  6. Taking a nap. (I suggest doing this ALL the time, pandemic or not)
  7. Asking for a hug. (I’m good. Physical contact isn’t high on my list of things I need)
  8. Baking things, like cookies. (I haven’t baked more, but I have been cooking more meals for the two of us)
  9. Singing in the shower. (No thanks. I’ll take a shower-beer instead)
  10. Dancing it out. (Again, not something I’m interested in)

I know that starting “Good News with Bad Music” earlier this year was a great way to help stay positive, especially when times were really dark.

What little things have you done to cheer yourself up this year?
