I’m certainly not the first person to think about this concept. A few of my friends have done “Dry January” in the past, with some of them making it a yearly thing. I’ve considered it in the past, but this year, I’ve decided to just go for it.
A lot of the reason people do this is for their health. We all know that alcohol has negative effects, especially in excess, which is something we do in Wisconsin to an extent we shouldn’t be as proud of as we are. But it turns out giving up liquor for just one month can have lasting effects to your health. It can even cause you to be more self conscious of your drinking, and learn to moderate yourself better for the rest of the year.
It’s okay to whoop it up every once in a while. But a lot of us could do with a little lesson in moderation. So if you’d like to do this with me, I’ll be giving weekly updates on how I’m doing to provide support.
(BTW, I’m not counting New Years Eve after midnight, nor should anyone. It starts when I wake up on January 1st, whenever that is….
