Three things to do in & around La Crosse this weekend!

I’m getting antsy.

Usually, I don’t really care all that much about the weather this time of year. It can be a bit unpredictable, so I normally do not pay it any mind.

But this year, I’ve got stuff I want to do in my backyard. BIG projects…and this whole snow/cold thing we’ve been doing for a few weeks is really wearing on me. I do see it’s supposed to be 53° on Thursday next week, so that’s a good sign!

If you’re looking to get out & do a few things this weekend, here’s a few suggestions:

FRIDAY – THE 18TH ANNUAL ST. PADDY’S DAY .01K @ BROTHER’S BAR TO BENEFIT THE HUNGER TASK FORCE

Yes, we’ve been doing this thing for EIGHTEEN years. Hard to believe. But over the nearly two decades of the World’s Shortest Run/Walk, we’ve made a ton of great memories. I suggest checking out our YouTube channel for some of the highlight videos.

We had Skradie making his own hovercraft one year, we had poor Mary falling down right at the start line, someone tripped a gorilla, there was a goat in a t-shirt, and that year with all the dust(sorry to the rest of businesses on Pearl St.)

This year should be one of the biggest crowds as St. Paddy’s Day is actually on a Friday! And we don’t give a rat’s ass about what the weather is doing! You can join us at Brother’s Bar starting at 4pm for check-in/registration, with the run starting at about 6pm.

We’ve got the pace car from Sleepy Hollow, and everyone who registers gets a free green beer at Brother’s, a kick-ass t-shirt, and the first 250 people to register will also get a free drinking glove, courtesy of Thorson Graphics. Plus, all the proceeds will benefit the Hunger Task Force of La Crosse.

We’ve also got mini cans of Mt. Dew for everyone thanks to Gillette Pepsi!

So, hopefully you can join us for this very fun, and very short event! It’s all made possible thanks to Paul’s Heating & Air Conditioning, River Valley Remodelers, Schneider Accounting & Tax, and the April Carrier Agency of Farmer’s Insurance.

SATURDAY – AN EVENING WITH THE PEOPLE BROTHERS BAND @ THE MAIN – AN EVENT SPACE

When it comes to talented musicians, there are few in this area that can hold a candle to the People Brothers Band!

They’re bringing an amazing night of music to town this Saturday night at the Main – An Event Space.

Doors open at 7pm and the tunes start at 8pm. Tickets are just $10 in advance, and this show will likely sell out! So buy yours online here.

SUNDAY – THE 56TH ANNUAL SHELBY FIRE DEPARTMENT CHICKEN-Q

Oh man…one of my favorites.

Mostly because it’s within walking distance of my house.

They start setting up the grills/firepits later in the week, and by Saturday evening, the smoke is wafting past my house, reminding me that on Sunday morning, I’ll be enjoying an amazing Chicken-Q for late breakfast/early lunch!

The 56th Annual Shelby FD Chicken-Q takes place at the Shelby Fire Department, and tickets for the event are available right across the street at the Shelby Town Hall building on Ward Ave. You can buy them for $11 in person, or pick them up online here.

This is a dine-in/drive thru event…and the line can be VERY long at times! But the organizers of this event do an amazing job of directing traffic, so you should get through in a short period of time. The Chicken-Q starts at 10:30am and goes until 5:30pm, or until they run out(and they ALWAYS run out!)

Find more info here.

As always, there’s a BUNCH of other events happening in our area this weekend, and you can find many of them online at AroundRiverCity.com

And if you’ve got an event coming up that you’d like to see featured on AroundRiverCity.com, you can submit it for free here.
