Not necessarily a “Wisconsin thing”, but it’s definitely a BIG deal in this area.
We had supper clubs in New England, but they were not nearly as popular as they are here in the Midwest.
Friday fish. Prime rib on Saturdays. A salad bar. A relish tray. Strong, well-made, affordable drinks. The option to have cottage cheese. Typically located “out of town”. Usually a family-owned & operated place.
These are some of the most well-known qualities of a supper club.
And there are NO shortage of them in our state. Even with a pandemic, and things changing, the supper club still exists and here’s a few in our state that you should check out if you haven’t already.
- Ishnala Supper Club
Billed as “Wisconsin’s #1 Supper Club”, Ishnala is just up the road on Mirror Lake in Lake Delton, and are open through October 24th. Try the Prime spears & a shrimp cocktail along with your brand old-fashioned! Can’t go wrong with lobster & steak for dinner, or maybe some roast duck! They also have their own brandy & wine. - Pinewood Supper Club
Located in Mosinee on Half Moon Lake, they make all their soups, sauces & dressings in house, and you can even grab some to-go! They have a traditional Friday fish fry, or try the shrimp fry! Pinewood has Gator balls & a relish tray for appetizers, and they have an amazing view of the lake! - The 5 O’Clock Club
Since 1929, The 5 O’Clock Club in Pewaukee has been serving customers with their large outdoor deck area, full service bar, and incredible food. Their fish fry offers perch, cod, or get a seafood combo! They also offer a great selection of draft beer & signature cocktails! Grab some gift cards & a 5 O’Clock gift package for someone! - Buskey Bay Resort
The wife & I go here every time we’re in Iron River for dinner. A great, laid-back place with a wonderful menu & attentive staff. They’ve got the salad bar, the fish fry, and a Walleye BLT that’s amazing! Buskey Bay Resort also offers cabin rentals!
There’s plenty of other amazing supper clubs here in WI and throughout the Midwest, many of them right in our own backyard. Obviously, you can head to Rocky’s in Stoddard, or Sullivan’s Supper Club in Trempealeau, or Arctic Springs in Galesville. But make sure you get out & explore the rest of the great supper clubs in the state!
