Three things to do in & Around River City this weekend.
This week started with all the windows open & a ride to work on the Harley. Might be ending the week with a snow shovel in my hand.
Also going to be cooking some corned beef & cabbage this weekend. One of my favorite meals. Only make it around St. Paddy’s Day, but it’s totally worth it!
Probably find some fish tonight and then we’ve got the .01k tomorrow. Sunday will be devoted to cooking that corned beef and drinking some Smithwicks.
If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, here’s a few suggestions:
FRIDAY – CULT MOVIE NIGHT @ THE RIVOLI THEATER PRESENTS – JASON X

Hell yeah. Definitely not the best of the Friday the 13th films, but it’s a fun romp in outer space and features my favorite Jason Vorhees kill of all time!
You know the one I’m talking about…
This Friday night, get to the Rivoli Theatre in downtown La Crosse for their one-day-only screening of “Jason X”, the 10th film in the “Friday the 13th” franchise that sees Jason cryogenically frozen on a dead planet earth, found by a crew of student explorers.
He thaws, and the killing begins! Even gets a sweet nano-tech upgrade!!
The movie starts at 8pm and you can buy tickets in advance here or grab them at the door.

SATURDAY – THE 21ST ANNUAL ST. PADDY’S DAY .01K WITH FLYWAY FENCE COMPANY

Here we go again…battling the elements on a dreary March day to raise much-needed money for the Hunger Task Force of La Crosse.
It’s our 21st Annual St. Paddy’s Day .01k with Flyway Fence Company and you can join us at Brothers Bar tomorrow afternoon to register & run in the World’s Shortest Run/Walk. Just 32.8 feet down Pearl St. and back into Brothers for green beer, Irish car-bombs, and plenty of shenanigans!
Your registration includes a free green t-shirt for the event and a free green tap beer at Brothers. And all the proceeds from this event will benefit the Hunger Task Force.
Registration/check-in at Brothers starts at 3pm and the run/walk will start at about 6pm. The nice thing is that it’s usually over by 6:10pm.
Special thanks to Flyway Fence Company, and to Paul’s Heating and Air Conditioning, Schneider Accounting and Tax, Thorson Graphics and April Carrier Farmers Insurance for supporting the 21st Annual St. Paddy’s Day .01k and the HTF!

SUNDAY – TOWN OF SHELBY’S 59TH ANNUAL CHICKEN-Q

It’s one of the most popular Chicken-Q’s in the La Crosse area and it’s this Sunday at the Shelby Fire Station.
This is quite literally right in my backyard and all this week, I’ve been watching them prep. They’ve got the signs out on the street to help direct traffic, they’ve got the fire pits in the parking lot and sometime tomorrow, I expect the coals to start burning and for that distinguishable smell to begin wafting from the fire department to my backyard.
Tickets are available at the Shelby Fire Department or across the street at the town hall. They are $15 each and include a 1/2 chicken dinner with all the trimmings. They start serving at 10:30am and will dish up the Q until 5:30pm or until they’re sold out.

As always, there’s plenty of other events happening in the area this weekend and you can many of them online at AroundRiverCity.com
