Standard Time Is Stupid
This Sunday, we once again “spring” forward into daylight savings time. While it sucks to lose that hour of sleep, it’s worth it for that extra hour of sunshine.
The biggest part of winter that gets to me isn’t the cold or the snow. It’s the sun going down at 4:30pm. It’s difficult to not feel like you’re living in a world of darkness. Why do we keep doing this to ourselves?
This fall, I propose that we don’t turn the clocks back. Let’s stay in daylight savings time permanently. I definitely wouldn’t wanna stay in standard time. I rather enjoy the sun not going down until almost 9pm in the middle of summer. Sure, if we stayed in daylight savings time, it would be darker for longer into the morning. But isn’t that a fair trade to at least see a bit of sunshine when you get home from work in the winter? It’d probably do better for our seasonal depression.
But we won’t do it. We’ll keep doing this dance with one another every spring and fall, because nobody wants to move on this. And I’ll be here to complain about this again in October.
