Three things to do in & Around River City this weekend.

After three long months of towing around that bike, the 95 Days of Summer finally come to a close this weekend. We’ve got Rock Stops on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and the last one on Monday…and then the bike will get dropped off at Great River Harley-Davidson so it can get cleaned and polished and ready for it’s new owner!

The giveaway will be next Sunday, September 7th at Features in Holmen. Check-in/registration starts at noon…we’ll draw two final qualifiers, and then we start the giveaway at about 2pm.

We had talked with a friend of ours about going out on their boat this weekend, but the weather might be a bit too chilly to get in the river. We’ll see!

If you’re looking for something to do this weekend in the Coulee Region, here’s a few suggestions:

FRIDAY – LIVE POLKA MUSIC @ THE LA CROSSE BIERHAUS!

I was just at the La Crosse Bierhaus last week for a Rock Stop and I enjoyed a giant stein filled with Oktoberfest beer!

This weekend, they’ve got Barefoot Becky & the Ivanhoe Dutchmen performing live on Friday & Saturday at the La Crosse Bierhaus and there’s no cover!

On Friday, get to the Bierhaus to see Barefoot Becky play all your polka favorites from 6:30pm until 8:30pm, and on Saturday, she’ll be playing from 1-3pm, and again from 6:30pm until 8:30pm.

They’ve got all sorts of traditional German food on the menu at the La Crosse Bierhaus, including all sorts of Brats & Wursts, giant pretzels, spaetzle, German potato salad, red cabbage & more!

Or, you can try their Friday fish fry tonight, featuring three pieces of their Hofbrau-battered cod with two sides!

SATURDAY – CAYDE MCNELLY BENEFIT @ THE CASHTON COMMUNITY HALL

When Cayde was born, he spent his first few days in the NICU, and during that time, doctors discovered a hole in his heart(VSD – Ventricular Septal Defect). Cayde struggled to gain weight and as he grew, the defect became more complex. At just five months old, Cayde underwent open heart surgery.

Following the heart surgery, Cayde battled several illnesses and ear infections that required multiple hospital stays. He also contracted both CMV & EBV(common viruses) that led to even more health complications, including suppressing his bone marrow function.

Cayde eventually ended up at American Family Children’s Hospital in Madison for extensive testing and that’s when doctors diagnosed him with HLH, a rare & life-threatening condition where the body’s immune system attacks it’s own organs.

There will be a benefit for Cayde McNelly and his family on Saturday, August 30th at the Cashton Community Hall starting at 11am.

You can enjoy raffles, a silent auction, a bake sale, food, drinks, more! Click here for details.

Monetary donations can be made at WCCU in the Cayde McNelly Benefit account.

For more info or to donate to the benefit, please call Dayna at 608-498-9687, Maria at 608-632-2723, Kenna at 608-693-0315, Britta at 608-738-1127, or Alivia at 608-738-1215

SUNDAY – ROCK THE VETS @ THE AMERICAN LEGION POST 417 IN LA CROSSE

In the past, it’s been BRUTALLY hot for Rock the Vets. Uncomfortably hot. But this year, Mother Nature is giving us a break and it’s going to be absolutely perfect weather on Sunday for some live music at the American Legion Post 417 on French Island for the annual Rock the Vets fundraiser!

Tickets for Rock the Vets are just $20(available in person or online here), and you get SEVEN hours of continual music on two separate stages under the big top tent! Rock the Vets is rain or shine, and you should bring a lawn chair to sit & relax when you aren’t dancing!

There will be food & beverages available for purchase, and you can enjoy live tunes from The Executives, The NOBz, Lonesome Steel, Root River Jam, Fayme Rochelle & the Waxwings, the Craig Olson Project, Last Call, the Brianna Rae Band, and more!

All proceeds from Rock the Vets will benefit the Freedom Honor Flight, which supports flying veterans to Washington, D.C., to visit the memorials built in their honor.
