WWE Takes Too Long For Wrestlemania Build-Up
Wrestlemania is now less than 3 weeks away. But if I’m being honest, it really should be this weekend.
Historically speaking, Wrestlemania has occurred either in late March or early April. But the last 2 years, they’ve done it in late April. This year, it’ll be on April 18th and 19th. That extends “Wrestlemania Season” far longer than it needs to be.
Consider this. The Royal Rumble, which is the official kickoff to Wrestlemania Season, is held in mid January to early February. They usually schedule it in a week where they won’t have to compete with the NFL Playoffs, which is smart. At the Rumble, we effectively find out 2 of the matches we’ll see at Wrestlemania. Then we have Elimination Chamber, the last big event before Wrestlemania, and the day we find out who will challenge the remaining 2 champions.
So essentially, we’ve known all 4 title matches at Wrestlemania since February 28th, and 2 of those matches since February 7th. There isn’t a single match that needs to be built up for 2 months. At least not from when it’s officially booked.
I understand scheduling it later makes it easier to book outdoor venues, as the weather tends to be more cooperative. But the WWE has got to throw in another special event in between Elimination Chamber and Wrestlemania. Because as fans, all we get is the same thing every week for a few weeks. I’m excited for Reigns vs Punk, but we’ve known about that match for 2 months now. Just give it to us already.
If they threw in another special event, or at least put the Elimination Chamber in mid-March, I may feel a bit different. At least they’ve given us some other matches to be excited about. Oba Femi vs Brock Lesnar is gonna be FIRE!
