It’s National Cocktail Day!
Woo hoo! Another BS holiday we made up as an excuse to drink! Not that we need one, but we’ll take it!
March 24th is National Cocktail Day, and I thought I’d go over a few of my favorites. Be sure to tell us yours in the comments.
1. White Russian

Who doesn’t love a good “adult chocolate milk”? It’s not one I can have many of, as gut rot becomes an issue. But on a nice calm day, nothing can relax you like one of these bad boys. And all you need is vodka, Kahlua, and cream (or milk).
2. Mojito

I’m not even that big of a fan of mint. But on a hot summer day, a well made Mojito can’t be topped. It’s sweet, refreshing, and doesn’t seem to be affected much by the ice melting as can be the case for many cocktails. I’ll down these in July and August, preferably in the sand somewhere. (But most likely just in my backyard.) The biggest pain about making these is having fresh mint. But if you have that, add it to white rum, simple syrup, club soda and lime juice. Always a favorite.
3. Moscow Mule

Lastly, an all year go-to for me is this little concoction. Does it need the copper mug? No. But it doesn’t feel like a mule without one. I have a whole collection, and I certainly use them. If you’re wondering why it comes in a copper mug, I’ll be honest, it was mostly a marketing gimmick from the 1940’s that ultimately worked. But it does have some purpose. Copper is an excellent conductor of temperature, so it’s quickly cooled by the cold drink inside. That’s why a fresh one always tastes extra frosty. There. You learned something today. Now grab some vodka, lime juice, ginger beer (I prefer Barritt’s), and a lime wedge.
