Three things to do in & Around River City this weekend!

Holy shit, I have an actual day off on Monday.

It’s a miracle!

After the crazy storms earlier this week, we might see some sun on Saturday, but more rain is in the forecast on Sunday & Monday.

Likely going to chill this weekend as we’re getting ready to go on vacation in a few days, but if you’re looking to get out & do something over the Memorial Day weekend, here’s a few suggestions:

FRIDAY – DUDE FRESH @ MOXIE’S

If you enjoy drinks, food, live music, and a killer setting, then Dude Fresh at Moxie’s is the perfect spot!

Several years ago, Moxie’s remodeled & upgraded their outdoor patio area and it’s definitely one of the premiere places to enjoy the river, along with some food & beverages during the summer months.

Dude Fresh plays a ton of your favorite, upbeat cover tunes, and they will take the stage at 7pm, and there’s NO cover charge! They’ve got some great food on the menu at Moxie’s, including my favorite, the Bourbon BBQ Bacon Smash burger!

SATURDAY NIGHT – STATE FINANCIAL BUCK BUCK NIGHT @ THE LA CROSSE FAIRGROUNDS SPEEDWAY

Save money on beers & concessions while taking in all the racing action at the La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway during the State Bank Financial Buck Buck night!!!

All your favorite foods at the concession stands are just $2, and ice cold brews are just $3!

On the track, you’ll see Late Models, Sportsmen, Hornets, Street Stocks, Mini-Vans, and the Flagpole Novelty Race!

Gates at the Speedway open & qualifying begins at 5:30pm with the racing action starting at 7pm. Tickets are just $16 for adults, $14 for seniors, $8 for students, $4 for kids, and if your child is under 5, they get in for free! Plus, the family bundle is just $35 and includes two adult tickets and up to four student/kid tickets.

You can buy tickets in advance here, or get them at the gate.

SUNDAY – 2ND ANNUAL MICK JAMES BENEFIT @ FEATURE’S IN HOLMEN

Mick Nisbet was a longtime member of the Features family in Holmen who tragically passed away in May of 2023. At the time, his fiancee, Baylee, was pregnant with their son, Mick James Darling, who was born on December 14th of 2023.

This benefit at Features in Holmen on Sunday starts at noon(registration for the bags tournament is at 11am!), and will raise money for the Mick James college fund.

Come & enjoy food, drinks, gun raffles, a 50/50, & much more!

MONDAY – MEMORIAL DAY PARADE IN SPARTA @ 10AM

The annual Memorial Day parade in Sparta starts on Monday at 10am on Water St. and continues through downtown, ending at Blyton Park with a ceremony to honor all service members who have paid the ultimate price to protect our freedoms.

A joint 21-gun salute will be provided by the VFW Post 2112 Honor Guard & the American Legion Post 100 Honor Guard. There will also be a wreath-laying ceremony at the VFW Post 2112 on Perch Lake immediately after the ceremony at Blyton Park.
