Three Things to do in & Around River City this weekend

With the temps expected to push 70° on Saturday & Sunday, I doubt I’ll be spending much time inside.

Definitely going to take the dogs for a few walks, clean up the backyard a bit, get on the Harley, maybe even eat dinner on the patio!

If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, here’s a few suggestions as we slide into March:

FRIDAY – WALLEYE FRY @ THE ROY L. VINGERS AMERICAN LEGION POST #52

Friday night fish fry in Wisconsin is ALWAYS a “thing”, but during Lent, it can be hard to get a table at your usual spot. Why not try someplace new???

Get to the Roy L. Vingers American Legion Post #52 in La Crosse this Friday night for their walleye fry from 5pm until 9pm!

Might as well dine in! You can grab a cocktail or two, enjoy the walleye, and stick around for live music from Joe Cody starting at 6pm.

Find more info on this event here.

SATURDAY – 26TH ANNUAL POLAR PLUNGE @ BLACK RIVER BEACH

This annual event is always a spectacular time, whether you’re plunging, watching, or just cheering on someone. And this year, it might be rather refreshing to jump into the icy waters of the Mississippi with a high in the mid 60’s expected on Saturday!

La Crosse has the longest running Polar Plunge in the state, and proceeds from this event directly benefit local Special Olympics Wisconsin athletes and participants.

Check-in on Saturday starts at 8:30am at Black River Beach & the opening ceremonies begin at 11am.

The Special Olympics athletes from this area will kick things off with the Special Olympics Athlete Oath, and then it’s time to hit the water!

If you aren’t plunging this year, you can still attend & enjoy wood-fired pizzas, cornhole, hot chocolate & coffee, souvenirs for sale, and much more!

Obviously, parking is VERY limited at Black River Beach & is reserved for VIP plungers, but there is a FREE shuttle bus that will run all day, starting at 8:30am at John’s Bar in downtown.

SUNDAY – DRIVE-THRU CHICKEN Q @ THE TREMPEALEAU FIRE DEPARTMENT

I know what I’m eating on Sunday!!! Gonna hop on the bike & take the ride to Trempealeau for this drive-thru chicken-Q to benefit the Trempealeau Fire Department!

You can enjoy a 1/2 Gold’N Plump chicken with potato salad, corn, a dinner roll & pickle spear for just $10, or grab a brat dinner for just $5. The Q starts at 9am and goes until the chicken is gone!!!!

There’s also going to be a Girl Scout cookie booth on site.

Proceeds from this Q will be used to purchase new turnout gear for the Trempealeau FD.

Find more info on this event here!

As always, there’s a bunch of other events in our area this weekend, and you can find many of them online at AroundRiverCity.com

And if you’ve got an event coming up that you’d like to see on AroundRiverCity.com, you can submit it for free here.
