Summer Kennedy was diagnosed in May of 2008 with a brain malformation known as a cavernous angioma. She was told to live her life as normal unless the symptoms came back and to get a MRI every year to see if anything has changed. The next two years went by fast as her three little girls kept her very busy.
Unfortunately on March 10th of this year her symptoms came back and after two weeks in the hospital and one seizure later surgery was inevitable. Summer traveled to Madison by ambulance. When she arrived in Madison her eyesight was very limited and she was virtually paralyzed.
After arriving in Madison and waiting nearly a week for her surgeon to get back in town she had brain surgery on March 26th. She stayed in Madison until April 1st and then was transferred to La Crosse to be closer to her family. Here she started the long road of recovery. Summer spent the next six weeks undergoing physical and occupational therapy to enable her to leave the hospital walking with just a cane.
After 65 days in the hospital Summer has returned to her family. Even though her sight is still very impaired, she is able to walk and is well on the road to recovery.
Due to her rising medical costs, Summer’s family and friends are having a benefit in her honor on Saturday, August 28th from 4pm until Midnight at the Centerville Curling Club in Centerville.
There will be food, raffles, a silent auction children’s games and entertainment.
