We’ve got another chance for you to grab the ride, cruise, and do some good all at the same time. The Austin Peterson Memorial Ride is coming up May 31st. You may remember Austin. A great kid, 8 years old. He, unfortunately, had an inopperable brain tumor. This past January, he passed away. Family and friends would like to keep his memory alive. All the proceeds raised will go to Camp Sunshine. For more information, you can check out www.campsunshinewisconsin.org
Jordan was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL) on January 14, 2008. Prior to her diagnosis, Jordan was experiencing pain in her left knee, making it very difficult for her to walk. Her parents, Vicki and Chad, brought her in January 11 to Gundersen Lutheran where blood tests were performed, leading to suspicions of Leukemia. The following Monday, Jordan went to see Pediatrics Oncology. This is where Jordan underwent a bone marrow biopsy and was soon diagnosed with ALL, which cancerous cells accumulate in the bone marrow, replace normal blood cells and spread throughout the body. Jordan required prompt treatment. Jordan was admitted to the hospital where she underwent surgery to have a port placed in her rib cage, where IV’s would be inserted to administer her chemotherapy treatments and for blood draws. She was in the hospital for six days before returning home. Jordan had her first chemotherapy on Friday, January 18th, and has continued with treatments every seven days. Since the start of her treatment, Jordan has undergone four spinal taps and two bone marrow biopsies. She recently started her second phase of chemotherapy. Jordan will need to undergo approximately 2 1/2 years of treatment. The medications that she is on are very potent and have many side effects. Some of which includes: nausea, decreased appetite, hair loss, and lower extremity weakness. Also due to the leukemia, Jordan’s immune system is lowered so she is very susceptible to infections (colds, flu, pneumonia, etc..). She recently was hospitalized for three days due to an infection. So through the course of her treatment there may be unexpected medical problems that arise.
Jordan and her family, which also includes her two brothers, Logan 11 and Zach 9, live in Wauzeka, WI, which is close to a hour and half drive for appointments at Gundersen in LaCrosse. So along with the expensive medical bills, they burn a lot of gas as well. Jordan’s dad, Chad, is in the National Gaurd and along with all that is going on with Jordan received a call while Jordan was in the hospital, stating that he will start active duty in June. So this will also be difficult for the family.
The benefit for Jordan is planned for Saturday, May 10 from 2 PM to 12PM. There will be a raffle, silent auction, Chinese raffle, and music. There will be free food and beverages. The benefit will be held at the Retreat Community Center in Retreat, WI off of HWY 82 in DeSoto. A fund will be set up at Genoa State Bank.

Lisa wrote to the Rock Foundation, and its one of those stories that breaks you up. Lisa is a stay at home mom, doing her best to care for her husband, and 4yr old son Clay. She has had diabetes since she was 5. Since then, she has been stricken legally blind, and has had complications with her legs and stomach. In addition to all of this, her blood sugars are a problem. If they drop too low, she could black out. Not something to deal with when staying at home with a 4yr old.
A benefit is being held for her April 6th, at the Log Cabin in Bangor. There will be a chili dinner, silent auction, and a Chinese raffle amongst other things. All the money raised will be going towards a pancreas transplant. With this transplant, she will no longer have diabetes, or any of the other complications. If you need more information, you can call Lisa at 608-857-3163
We hope to see you there!
Steve, and his wife Sheri have been through a lot. Steve was diagnosed with a brain tumor. His family had hoped that it was going to be a quick, easy surgery, and then be over with. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Steve has had to endure 3 major brain operations, and is currently unable to communicate, and he is immobile.
We’re hoping you can help. A benefit is being held for him Saturday, March 15th at the Onalaska American Legion. Any donations would be much appreciated. If you would like more information, please call Chris at 608-769-4313, or e-mail her at chrisseverson@charter.net
